Love Local Summer Initiative
August 22, 2024

The summer of 2024 has been one for the record books at Heritage Co-op. Through our Love Local Campaign, we had the privilege of supporting various community organizations across all seven of our member communities, making a lasting impact where it matters most.

Our Love Local series kicked off with a community BBQ in Rivers on July 6th, where we partnered with the Riverdale Early Learning Centre to raise funds for expanding their facility. Thanks to the generosity of our community, $794.75 was raised to help create additional spaces for local children.

Later that evening, our Love Local initiative moved to Strathclair. We teamed up with the Strathclair Drama Club, providing deli trays for their 40th Production Celebrate Social. This event not only celebrated local talent but also raised funds to ensure the Drama Club can continue offering amazing productions for years to come.
Next, the campaign made its way to Wawanesa, where the local Lions Club joined us at the town's Gas Bar to serve up hot dogs and smokies. The event raised $505.50, with all proceeds going towards the Lions Club’s ongoing community initiatives.

In Brandon, our Love Local event at the Food Store featured a car show in collaboration with the Memory Lane Car Club. With proceeds benefiting the Children’s Ward at Brandon General Hospital, the combination of cool cars and delicious BBQ brought in an impressive $1,527.45.

On July 19th, our BBQ truck, Metro, rolled into Erickson, where we partnered with the Services for Seniors Group. Despite ongoing construction on Main Street, the event was a success, raising $1,032.50 to support the group’s operating costs and program investments.

As Western Days kicked off in Sandy Lake on August 9th, our Love Local campaign was there to start the weekend off right. Volunteers from the Sandy Lake and Elphinstone Handi-Van Service joined us to raise funds for their volunteer service, bringing in an outstanding $1,422.00.

The final stop on our Love Local tour was in Minnedosa at the Fun Fest Kids Zone, where we provided lunch for those enjoying the festivities. The Minnedosa and Area Food Bank raised a total of $858.05, helping them continue their vital work in the community.

In total, we raised $6,140.25 across all our communities, with every penny going directly to the local organizations that participated. Heritage Co-op was proud to all of the products to make these events possible, along with supplies and the dedication of our Team Members, to ensure each event was a success.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our members who came out to support these events. We look forward to continuing this tradition of community outreach with the 2025 Love Local campaign next summer!
